Ladies

Imagine the world without ladies.  Dismal.  Then again, imagine it without gents.

Anyway, here's a cool little journey on female rappers, starting with Roxanne Shante and Baby Love in the Rock Steady Crew.  Good good.  Roxanne has like a million verses and Baby Love has two lines.  Interesting to see the Rock Steady Crew as kids, really, kids.  Such a - I would even say - innocent positivity there.  Fun times when ya got some time.

Rum 'n' Drums!

Well, Hip Hop Duende had heaps of fun at the Marble Bar at the Hilton for the first Rum 'n' Drums!  With lip-smackingly delicious Flor de Cana rum cocktails, those wicked cajon box drums, a very vibed up crowd including lots of friends and fam, it was a treat!  I loved seeing the response of some younger people to the cajons, and remembering the first time I saw one through their vivid excitement.  We had some spontaneous flamenco dancing guests, Claudia was really quite awesome on the cajon, and we dressed up.  With a custom-written rap it was a good stretch for me to explore rumba palmas at the same time.  Fun fun!

MC artisans

A thought about MCs after catching Optimen and Ozi Batla at the FBi Radio Stolen Records ball. Numbers, MCs in numbers. That I can have collaborators onstage to share the force. That there are so many ideas that I have in terms if rhythmically layering phrases between more than one MC. And also, that it's possible to under utilise three MCs. That one can be as or more strong.
